Oxford Youth Singers
Oxford Youth Singers is an auditioned youth choir for students in 8th-12th grades. This choir enhances music skills and provides choral experience and opportunities for musical theatre. Students also have the opportunity to learn about the technical and backstage components of performances. This group is for those who want to enhance their music and theatre education.
Under the direction of Mary Lynn Luke, Artistic Director and Eva Bone, Assistant Vocal Director, Oxford Singing Children and Oxford Youth Singers perform Christmas in Covington to celebrate the holiday season in December. With the expertise of Jay Tryall, Assistant Director & Choreographer, the groups collaborate again in the spring to perform a musical.
Auditions for the 2012 - 2013 season were held August 13, 14 & 16. Appointments to audition can be made beginning August 6.
OSC and OYS members from the previous season do not need to re-audition.
Rehearsals will begin on August 23rd.
Singers in the 8th-12th grades who audition for membership in Oxford Youth Singers should be prepared to perform the following for the audition: sing scales to determine the singer’s vocal range (Ms. Luke will accompany on the piano), sing a song the student is comfortable with (can be as simple as Happy Birthday; Amazing Grace), and clap rhythm patterns by repeating rhythmic patterns that are clapped for them (echo clapping).
